I’m thinking about starting a dog rescue, mainly for large, working dogs whose owners can’t handle them or ones with behavior and medical problems that can’t be adopted out.

*If I do, do this, it will be some time into the future, at least 5 years as I’m only 16. I’ve owned large breeds all my life, so I’m more connected to them and it kills me to see them in shelters because their owners didn’t do the research and/or train them.

    Money, more than anything else. :o )

    Dogs are expensive, especially ones that have been thrown away. Their former owners frequently dont even keep up the basics, like vaccinations and neutering.

    A lot of land, if you are going to keep them in one place rather than fostering them out.
    Permits and insurance, non profit status,

    Volunteers, because no one person can take care of so many dogs 24/7, all alone, and most rescues do not make enough to keep a lot of people on payroll.

    Rescuing can be a tough gig.

    Liability insurance, establish yourself as a non-profit corporation so you can receive donations, location that adheres to the laws of the city or state in terms of the number of dogs and distances from neighbors, enough working capital to keep your organization afloat for at least one year.

    First, I’m sure you would have to get a permit to care for dogs, depending on your state’s law against having so many dogs.
    Also, you would have to get some followers. People who will donate and maybe even foster some of the dogs. Then begin to advertise on craigslist and online.
    Thats all I know, sorry, but its great that you want to help dogs that no one thinks they can handle.
    Many people would surely healp you.
    I really wish you luck, and I hope you stick to this. The world really needs more dog rescues for unwanted dogs.
