Should I be doing more to protect my dog from worms?

I have a 4 year old Boston Terrier. He has never had problems wtih worms thus far. I give him a chewable tablet once a month for heartworms but apparently there are several other types of worms he can be infected with.

What more should I be doing to make sure he stays healthy?

  Lucky for you, most heartworm preventatives also protect our pets against intestinal parasites. For example, Heartgard and Interceptor are examples of heartworm prevention that also double-up to kill parasites.

  That IS the reason why vets tell you to give Heartgard, Interceptor, etc. once a month. Technically, those prescriptions can be given every 3 months to prevent Heartworm, but MUST be given once a month to kill intestinal parasites. The reason? The life cycle of a parasitic egg to the adult parasite is 28 days… so to make it easier on pet parents.. we say "once a month".

  Your best bet is to have annual or biannual fecal floatation’s done at your vet office to check for parasites. Obviously, if your cutie ever starts with diarrhea or if you are actually seeing reminisce of parasites in his stool, on his fur, etc. then you should bring a fecal sample to your vet.

  It is also important to keep the area where he defecates clean. Meaning, you do not want other dog feces around. That is the main cause of intestinal parasites. You also want to discourage your dog from eating other animal feces or drinking from water (puddles, for example) near other feces.

  u shuld also have a check up for ur dog every half year
  also observe any abnormal behaviors ur dog maybe experiencing (depression, craziness)

  just give him a wormer 3 in 1 made by hertz is good. use it once every 6 months.
