my newborn has little red bumps all over body and i just found out my dog has fleas, any connection?

i just found out my dog has fleas and he usually sleeps with us. my 6 day old is getting red marks all over his body and i was just wondering if any one thinks its flea bites and not baby acne. what should i do if its either?

    yes it could be
    well first of all you need to de-flea the house and dog. you will need to remove everyone and the dog and get a Raid flea bomb set and bomb the house with them in each room, wait and come back in 3 hours and vaccum and air out the house. . Then you need to get frontline or K-9 advntage and put it on the dog immediatly. ( from the vets office). that should take care of the fleas.

    Treat your house and dog for the fleas
    For either case – flea bites or newborn acne = they will both go away on there own

    It sounds like flea bites to me. You need to get your dog on some topical or oral flea meds and give him a flea bath. Then you need to wash everything in your house and vacuum thouroughly. The vacuuming will awaken the new fleas and you will then need to vacuum again thouroughly. I say you will have to do this weekly for a month.

    yes it could be – i would take your baby to the Dr either way he will give you some cream for it – poor little man.

    Yes, it sounds like flea bites. Take the baby to the doctor to get some cream so he will be more comfortable.
    Take the dog to a groomer to treat him for fleas.Keep him off the bed until you are sure he has no fleas.
    Wash all your bedding with hot water and buy a spray from the vet to remove fleas frm any carpeting you may have.

    You MUST treat every area the dog has had contact with to prevent a reinfection.

    it is definitely the fleas. keep a close eye on the baby though for the next couple of days. flea bites can lead to a staph infection if they are bad enough. watch for fever, swelling, severe irritability, vomiting, or lack of eating. your baby should be fine, so dont freak out, but just be warned that a staph infection can happen in a newborn because of bites like these. good luck and be sure to treat the house and dog too.

    if your dog has fleas, then it’s probably flea bites. you’ll need to go to the vet and get your dog a pill that will kill all fleas and ticks on your dog in 24 hours. also get the front-line or an equivalent and put it on your dog every month to prevent fleas. as for your house, you will need to bomb it. you can get a can that’s especially made for fleas at any store like wal-mart. you’ll have to leave the house for 3-6 hours after you set them off and then you’ll have to wash everything afterward. or you could call a pest control agency to come do it for you and most of their chemicals are safe for babies and pets, but make sure to ask them. as for your baby, i’m sure he’ll be ok, but if you want to be sure bring him to the doctor and tell them what happened. i’m sure they’ll understand. lots of people have dogs and dogs get fleas. but you can keep the fleas off your dog and baby by using flea and tick prevention. and on the other hand, if it’s just baby acne, don’t worry about it. it will go away on it’s own. best of luck to you!

    It could be either. My 6 day old (our babies have the same birthday!) had a rash all over her body for the first couple of days after she was born, and my midwife said it looked completely normal. It’s my baby’s skin adjusting to her new environment. On the other hand, if it’s just popping up now, it could definitely be the fleas. Take care of the flea problem (which I’m sure you’re doing) and take your baby in to be checked if it doesn’t disappear, or if you just want to ease your mind or get a professional opinion. Congrats on your new little one!

    It could be either. But I would guess fleas. Fleas are vicious and they get everywhere!!! I’m not sure on treating your child…except to bathe them with a soothing wash and keep away from dog until he’s treated. Wash all baby’s bedding too. And then consult your pediatrician. The rest I am familiar with. Our neighbors dog (who our dogs play with regularly) passed the joy on to us and our home. It was awful!!! Our small dog slept with us too…and Hubbie and I ended up with tiny red bumps on our legs. I tried several things and it took a long time to get rid of them. Then once I did…my friend got a new kitty…it had fleas but she didn’t know it…had me take care of it while they were on vacation and BAM – my house was infested again. What a nightmare!! So I ‘ll let you know what worked the best.

    I tried several over the counter pet store remedies and spent a ton of money on things that didn’t work ! Don’t bother.

    Seeing as your have a newborn you may want to go the “natural” route…which is what I did first. When we got them back I said to hell with it and went for the fast chemical fix.

    I went on a “natural site” because I was hesitant about putting chemicals all over my home. Fleas lay their eggs in your carpet. Eww I know!!! Apparently Salt – normal Morton’s Table salt in the big cylinder ( less than a dollar at Walmart) apparently disrupts the process and kills the eggs. Sprinkle carpet liberally and let sit atleast an hour….I let mine sit overnight. Then vacuum. Repeat daily. Eggs are at different “cycles” and will continue to be laid. Be sure to empty your vacuum in the outside trash after each use. You will need to continue to do this for about a month.

    I tried many dog shampoos to no avail – and spent lots of money on “flea drops” that didn’t work. Wash your dog in Dawn dish soap and lots of it – it’s rough on their skin – but the fleas suffocate and come crawling out…you’ll see them go down the drain. Works awesome! Rinse your dog really really well. Then I used a spray bottle ( again Walmart, health and beauty aisles less than a buck) and got Tea Tree Oil and Orange Oil ( the orange is just for a better scent – you could use others. This I got at a health food store.) About 10 drops of each oil per bottle should do. Don’t over due the Tea Tree – it can be very harmful if your pet gets too much. Spray them all over…especially by tummy and above their tail ( that spot they love scratched) – those areas are usually worst and gently rub in. Then consult your vet – ask about Sentinel, it’s a combination heartworm pill that also guards against fleas and ticks….it costs a little more – but has worked great for my pets. It doest take a month or two to fully kick in – so continue to monitor your pets…spray them with the solution every other day. It may sound strange -but the whole thing gave me the creepy crawly feeling so I washed my hair and body with Dawn and sat in the shower for a few mins before rinsing off…..and then repeated my shower with normal shampoo, conditioner and soap..and a very good lotion after. I felt much better and not itchy. I never saw a flea on myself – but it did make me rest easier. Do not put the dawn on your child…not that I think anyone would…but I just have to say it anyway!

    Now for the chemicals…Raid makes a spray for fleas and ticks, not horribly expensive, but seems to work. I vacuumed the house and furniture, washed all bedding in hot water with double the amount of soap and then sprayed the house with a couple of cans of this stuff. Don’t forget under the couches and the mattress. Open your windows! This also can be used on the dogs and rubbed into their fur according to can directions. Don’t forget to treat your yard – this stuff is in the pet section with all the other flea remedies…it’s a concentrate that you attach to your hose and spray at night. Repeat again two weeks later. The following weekend I bug bombed ( again with Raid Bug Bombs, again at Walmart )the house while we went on a “day trip” – basically you need to stay out of the house for several hours – read and follow all directions for best results. The great thing too is that it will rid your house of spiders and any other bugs that may be lurking! Come home – leave baby outside with someone and go in and open all your windows…let air out for atleast an hour before letting everyone return home. Wash counters and eating surfaces, wash bedding. And voila your home and pets should be cured!!! This happened to us fall of 07′ and we are still clean of fleas a year later! Good Luck!
