Just found out my apartment building had bed bugs. I haven’t been bitten but I see my dog scratching. If I bathe him in a flea and tick bath (after the extermination), will it kill the bed bugs on him?

    I highly doubt it since the shampoo is for flea/ticks and no bed bugs, but it couldn’t hurt to take the dog to the groomers for a flea/tick dip and a good thorough cleaning which they can offer you. Make sure that you get rid of your bed and couches, etc. because from what I’ve experienced with a client who had them, even with treatments… sometimes they can survive and will stay in couches and bedding.
    Bed bugs are nasty little buggers. I feel soo bad for you, good luck and I hope the process is quick, easy, and cost effective for you.

    First – sorry you have bed bugs. That sucks.

    Second- most of the time the bed bugs don’t live on the dog, if he is scratching he may just be itchy, or he may actually have fleas. I would use a product from your vet if you are concerned about that, but perhaps checking at the CDCs website could give you more info on bedbugs?

    NO medicine for fleas and ticks DOES NOT KILL bed bugs. Your land lord needs to have whole building fumigated.

    UMM you need to get rid of your matress and all your furniture. You need an exterminator to come and get rid of the bedbugs. THEN wash your dog after you move back case you need to get out of there with your dog ASAP!

    no, its very hard to kill bed bugs and the chemicals that do are very toxic on people and animals. Make sure he’s clean and check his fur for bugs or eggs that might have hitched a ride.

    edit: no you dont need to get rid of all your furniture if its properly exterminated, but get rid of matresses if there’s evidence of bugs in it, dry clean clothing or wash it in hot water and dry it on high heat, some valuable, unwashable items can be quarantined in a sealed container.
