I used K9 advantix on my dog 12 days ago and am still seeing fleas, is this normal?

We took the dog to the vets on Sat. because it has been over a week and I am still seeing fleas on him. The vet said it can take months to stop seeing fleas =( He gave us a professional house spray called Knockout E.S. I vacuumed the whole house (floors, beds and sofas, etc.) and also mopped because we have all wood floors (no carpet anywhere) and then sprayed the whole house with this spray. It says it is suppose to kill adult fleas and prevent the eggs and larvae from hatching. I also sprayed my dog with Adams fleas spray for dogs which has IGR in it to stop the flea growth. Its now Monday only two days later and I found 3 fleas on my dog this morning. Why? I understand that the sprays cannot kill the pupae but once they emerge why is the spray not killing them? Or atleast when they get to the dog why is the K9 advantix or Adams spray not killing them. I’m very frustrated and don’t know what else to do. Please help.

  It is likely that you have fleas in your home. They can hop up on the dog but as soon as they sit down for a snack, they are killed.

  Treat your home. Vacuum thoroughly. Use flea powders or flea bombs or have the home exterminated. Use a lawn spray with insecticide on your grass.

  Wow, you don’t have carpet & your still infested,,,,,, that sucks. Take the dog to a groomer & get a flea dip, this will kill everything on it, while he/or she is there treat your home just like you did but with different products, take all the cushions off the couch & put them outside, vacuum them & the rest of the couch & anything else in the house, clean your bed, the dogs bed & all the bedding in a hot water wash, open all the windows & let the cool air in (if your in a part that gets cool) either way air out the house. If you can stay over night somewhere after the flea dip & house treatment, leave the dog where ever until you go back in & clean the house. Make sure your using the right K9Advantix for his size & make sure it’s not outdated & you bought it from a reputable place. Use the product year round. If your walking the dog, find a new place to walk him, if he’s in a fenced yard , treat the yard ( a home depot employee can help you treat it safely for your animal). Avoid dog parks & all areas where other dogs are until your pet is flea less & regularly on treatment & you don’t see anymore fleas. Your situation sucks but you can beat them. Good luck ~~~ just remember , this sucks for your dog too…….

  Two things that will help rid your dogs of fleas are, Brewers yeast pills . One each day, this makes their blood high in iron and for some reason fleas do not like blood that is high in iron.

  My daughter has 7 dogs and here is her shampoo recipe. One pint of ivory dish detergent, 1 pint of apple vinegar, one pint of water and 4 oz.vegetable glycerin (this is in the health and beauty dept. at the health food store). The vinegar seems to do the job.

  They are shampooed every week religiously to keep them flea free, I even cream rinse my dogs.

  I use this on my two Shih Tzus and she uses it on all of her dogs. None ever have fleas. And they do all spend time outside.

  We live in Florida, where fleas never die.

  Don’t vacuum. It makes it worse, The friction of the vacuum causes all the eggs to hatch and causes thousands and thousands more. don’t vacuum until you have bombed the house , seven dusted the yard, flea dipped and treat the dog, given them a capstar which will immediately kill everything that is on him. They can pick them up from anywhere and bring them in!!
