I think my dog has worms, where do they come from?

No kind way to say this, I noticed a yellowish/offwhite worm near the rear end of my 3 year old basset this morning. The worm looked like a larvae.

Am I correct in concluding that my dog has worms?

Where do these type of worms originate?

  Sounds like tape worms…..don't worry, as long as you take care of the problem right away they arn't really that serious…..but that's ONLY if you take care of them RIGHT AWAY!!!

  i think it would be tapeworms
  if you see rice lke segments on fur around the rear thats what it is
  dogs get them from fleas or eating poop
  deworm and put some flea treatment on him

  It's likely a section of a tapeworm. Probably due to having fleas.

  If the worms were small and rice looking then they are tapeworms and they get them from fleas. Take a sample of your dog's stool to your vet and have it checked then you can get a dewormer and a flea preventative from your vet

  My dachsund got her worms from smelling other dogs poop.
  Keep your dog away from other dog poop in your area…..remember, if your dog has worms, many dogs in your area have it too………..very contagious between dogs and cats…………keep your little guy away from all of your other pets until the treatment the vet gives you has a chance to work through the dogs system!
  Go see the vet……my dogs treatment cost 25 dollars through the vet and takes care of ALL WORMS

  yes, it is worms. they originate from various sources like fleas, eating unclean food outside or he might also catch it from other dogs.

  a lot of worms originate from the dog's food. Because there are a lot of eggs that are layed on grass which is eaten by cows. these cows are delivered to the buthcer shop and chopped. some cows are sent to be processed into dog food and sometimes the worms are not removed, also you might have fed your dog meat itself whihc might contain the eggs. these eggs hatch inside the body of your dog so you better deworm it

  a lot of dogs like to eat cat crap! This is one way they can get worms. All you have to do is look for deworming medication at any pet store, or even like Kmart/Walmart. You treat them a few times every few months or so and they should be fine. I'm not sure what else causes worms though.

  SAometimes born with them, sometimes fleas sometimes stepoping in feces from other animals etc. Jusat have your dog treated. When I got my first dog, she was infected with every type of worm. Yes, sickening, but easily treatable. This sounds lke your dog has either tape or round worms too. take to vet and wash bedding, wash throw rugs shampoo reg rugs, those eggs will reinfect. ask dog to wash or wipe paws when it comes in, ours learned irm so sweet and impressive. She loved doing it. Ypu can have a towel handy to wash paws off, especial;ly in between the paws so they are clean.

  inside your DOG. but that don't matter what matter is that you better take it to get attended because if you don't it might die on you. stop guessing what it is and get some professional help. it could come from its food, from eating stuff it wasn't suppose to to, or missing shots, ect…

  they originate in the soil.. and can transfer from sniffing other animals feces. there are over the counter products available and sold over the counter near where you buy dog food . read the instructions carefully and follow them to the letter. ( use a calender to monitor ). as for fleas the same place you find dewormer will sell you flea soap for pets .bathe the dog once a week using the soap generously, until the animal is rid of them. then do not allow the dog to have access to any other animals feces any more.

  Fleas are the main cause of tape worms which is what your description sounds like. Other animals can pass them on, and you should try to keep your dog from smelling other dog's stools.
  I would get your dog to a vet to fix the worm problem, and then put the dog on a flea medication to prevent future problems. You can get heart worm prevention meds that also have flea protection.

  It could be a tape worm more than likely though it is from his own fecces or that of another dog. That it how it is usually passed. It is very possible that it is fly larve. There are several different type of worms that a dg and other animals can get. Vets ususally want to run a test of some kind to determine what type to know how to treat it. I have learned that tobacco in some canned food works better than anything a vet will give you and treats all kinds of worms including heart worms and if you buy heart worm meds and they don't have it it can kill them but the tobacco won't harm them.
