How old do i have to be to work at a dog rescue home?

i live in the uk and i want to be a professional dog trainer when i’m older. i have a dog already (a miniature dachshund) but i want more experience with dogs. how old would i have to be to help out at a dog rescue home or animal shelter? thanks x

    I was 11 when I started, and was able to do all the things the other volunteers could do.
    As long as your parent signs the forms and they believe you are capable, you can volunteer.

    (there are some laws that say you can only volunteer at 16+ but most shelters are so desperate for volunteers they generally ignore them)

    well you probably would be a volunteer, you can be any age to do that i think. well obviously in reason, 3 year olds would go round eating the dogs.

    16 but you could out as a volunteer younger

    I think that rescue homes will welcome you. At the outset you will be given boring jobs like washing the bowls and preparing the dogs food. Then when you convince them that you are willing,keen and reliable they will ask you to feed the dogs and walk them. Don’t forget that somewhere in between this, there are pens to swill out and poos to pick up.

    Lots of people volunteer, then they stop doing this when they realise that there are nasty jobs to do. However if you stick in and prove to be reliable you will earn a good reference that will be valuable when you leave school and want to study animal behaviour.

    Good trainers and behaviourists have an interesting and often a lucrative life.Go for it
