The vet should have given your dog a dose of worm medicine. The meds should take about 24-48 hours to kick in. Your dog should begin to feel better soon after ridding itself of the worms. Another thing you should do is pick up all of the stool in your yard, where the dog has been going. Hookworms can live in the soil and can be picked up by other dogs, and could possibly re-infect your dog after he/she is well. Tape worms are caused by fleas. When a dog ingests a flea that is harboring the lifecycle of tapeworms the dog then becomes a host to tapes. As long as your dog has fleas the tapeworms can keep coming back. Your best bet is to get your dog on a montly program of flea prevention (Advantix is a really good one) and A heartworm preventative. Most heartworm pills have extra additives that will take care of other intestional worms as well.

Not long about a week or less.

Dependent on the dog and its metabolism. Usually treatment has to be repeated in three weeks.

After your pet has been treated for worms you will start seeing her expel the worms in her bowel movements over the next few days. Keep her hydrated & well fed and expect to see her better in 2-3 days after the initial worms treatment.
If you still see worms in her bowel movements after a week I’d suggest taking her back to the vet to see if continued treatment is necessary. Some worm infections clear up sooner than others.

She’ll start looking better this week - you’ll see her coat fill in, she’ll put on muscle, and her eyes will brighten. After a few weeks you probably won’t be able to tell she ever had worms.
Tapeworms generally only take one treatment to be rid of, but yes, please moniter your dog and have him rechecked in about a month to have a fecal test and make sure she is clean.

About 1 week after all the worms have been expelled from the dog.

Well first, it might take several treatments to fully cure the worms. If you’re referring to weight gain, it can take weeks or months to properly gain back the weight lost from worms. Make sure you offer her healthy foods in several small meals per day to help her gain weight at a slow, healthy pace.
