How do you know what kind of worms your dog has?

I dont know what kind of worms it is all i know is that she was rubbing her bottom on the ground this morning. I need to find out so Ill know what kind of meds to get her. She is 7 months old and weighs 12 lbs.

Thanks so much and for those who answered my other question…I have decided to take her to the vet.

    chances are she is rubbing her butt on the ground because her anal glands are bothering her…

    Just because she’s rubbing her bottom doesn’t necessarily mean she has worms. I’m glad you’re taking her to the vet — be sure to take a stool sample with you.

    just go to a clinic and get a deworming shot for like $15, and when she goes pooo again, then youll know

    Scooting on their butts is a sign they may need their anal glands emptied.By rubbing them on the floor the dog is trying to relieve the pressure that builds up. They normally empty while having a b.m. This stuff is very smelly so it helps mark their territory.Sometimes this gland gets clogged up. Take a stool sample in when you take your dog to Dr. They will make a slide and see what kind,if any, worms your dog may have.Tiny worm eggs will show up in the stool. Go to vet.

    Just because your dog was engaged in the at behavior doesn’t necessary mean it has worms. Animals do this anyway. However, the most common parasite culprit would be tapeworms, which are transmitted when your dog eats a flea. If your dog has had a flea infestations – even a mild one – this could be the problem, and you will need to see a vet.
    Tapeworms are one of the few intestinal parasites that are visible to the naked eye. When your dog does his business, look closely at the droppings to see if you can identify small, rice like things waving at you, and if so, take her to the vet. There aren’t anthelmentics readily available over the counter for tapeworms, unless you buy in quantity, and considering your dog only weighs 12 pounds, this isn’t the most economical option.

    roundworms-looks like spaghetti may be visible in waste or vomit,signs include weight loss, potbelly, dry coat, coughing, vomiting etc.

    hookworms-causes weakness, anemia, bloody diarrhea and death usually in young dogs

    whipworms- very thin and threadlike, caught by licking infected ground, causes weight loss, anemia diarrhea and can be found by sampling waste

    tapeworms-appears in anal area, looks like wiggling moist rice(each segment) causes weight loss and diarrhea.

    rubbing her rear doesn’t mean worms,it could be her anal glands are full. take her to a vet. with sample of feces. they can look at it and tell if it is worms or not. if not they can clean out anal glands.

    don’t give your pup over the counter wormer. if you misjudge the amount you could kill her. if she is on heart worm preventative meds. you can overdose her.

    you can get neemex wormer, which is orally distributed. it’s like 1 cc per 5 lbs of weight. it wouldnt hurt just to give it to her and if you can see anything in the feces (whitish and long) its tape worms and you’ve just treated her. you should give her more in a couple weeks. You may not be able to see any worms at all and they could still be there. anyway, this wormer wont hurt her. Also, it could be something else and I would still take her to the vet..

    Take a stool sample to the vet’s & they can examine it & tell you what kind of worms she has also she could have fleas or recal gland could need looking after this needs to be done by a vet dogs often rub there bottom on the ground
