How can you know the difference from your dog having worms & needing their anal glands expressed? ?

Except for looking at the stool for worms cuz it may not have hatched yet…

Also except for going to the vet just to get it checked…cuz I will pay a lot like and I can buy a lot of dog food with that
In my area…Stool checks cost and by just asking the vet it cost you….

Not really a lot of dog food but I could buy some stuff like leash, collar, and premium dog food with that

    $ 50.00 is actually cheap for a vet visit! If you are unsure of your dog’s problem, it is really important to take him to the vet.

    $ 50.00 won’t get you THAT much dog food, btw, unless you are buying the cheap stuff.

    Dogs need wormed once a month. So if you haven’t been doing this then it’s probably worms. You could worm your dog and if your dog has stink butt problem or is scooting across the floor on his hind end then he needs his anal glands expressed.

    to tell you the truth thats kinda selfish but if your dog has worms the her belly will be bloated and in that case its going to need to be treated anyways. If your dog needs the anal glands expressed they tend to like there butt a lot or scoot their but on the ground. YOu can always get the anal glands expressed easily. same with this unless you know how to express the anal glands yourself which im assuming you dont because most people dont. YOu need to go to a vet so that they can be expressed. Just in case they are infected. Or you could just get your dog groomed because at most grooming places they will express the anal glands for you along with getting groomed. Ethier way your dog needs to go to the vet. THink about your dog and not yourself

    If the anal glands need expressing your dog will likely have a VERY stinky butt all the time. This is a kind of stench you ca no notice if the dog is sitting near you. It may also be painful for the dog to potty.
    Your vet can check a stool sample of your dog without seeing the dog. Simply collect a fresh poo ,place it in a plastic container and drop it by the vet. They can look at it under the microscope and see evidence of worms. This stool check is fairly inexpensive-maybe $20.

    well, the best way to check for worms is to examine the stool. even then, like you said, they may not have hatched, and you will not be able to see them. worms usually cause weight loss over a period of time, and can cause a bloated belly. occasionally when a dog has worms, they will scoot if they are hanging around the dogs rear, but scooting is a tell tale sign of full anal glands, and it shouldnt cost 50 to express them, maybe 20-25. And unless you wanna do it urself, I would go to the vet, and maybe you should call around…try the humane society, they sell services at discounted prices!

    If you are dog is an adult, chances of worms are not as likely as when he was a puppy with a sensitive immune system. But anal glands usually have a foul odor, like fish. They will often lick their behinds and their lower back and sometimes whine and cry. Worms can also cause irritation and often a dog will try and “scoot” on the carpet or ground. You can actually have the groomer’s do an anal gland expression while you have the dog bathed.
