I got a free dog today and its stomach is a pot belly. The owner said that he has no self control in eating but everyone says he has worms… I haven't had him long enough to see his poop

  Take the dog to the vet for a health check.
  If he has not been wormed then you can bet he's full of worms.

  Worms that cause the most health problems–hookworm, roundworm, whipworm and coccidia are not visible in the stool. Only tapeworm segments (from fleas) are visible. Your new dog needs to have a stool checked by your vet microscopically. He should have a checkup anyway, and a heartworm test and vaccines.

  well you can take it to a vet or the dof shows signs when its been infected like

  Have his stool examined by a vet, as worms aren't always visible to the naked eye. There are different types of worms and different types of wormers. Yes, you can overworm. Some wormers are safe such as Nemex (Pyrantel Pomoate), others will cause poisoning if given in the wrong amount (Droncit.You can give your pup a simple over the counter wormer, the problem is that with the potbelly he might have worms that you need to deworm with a prescription medication. If you have experience fine, but if you don't its better to have a vet deworm.

  Over the counter wormers dont always work or work on all worms take a poop sample to the vet and they can tell you and also treat the dog too.

  Most puppies will have worms.If he has really bad breath,I mean it smells like poop,not dog food.Or if he drags his behind after pooping,he probably has worms.If you notice white,almost rice shaped particles in his poop,when you see one,those are worms.

  Kimbee doesnt know what she is talking about, most worms are visible in the stool even more so if they are puffing the belly out his pooh will look like spaghetti strands, poor thing just take him to the vet and stop guessing. How would you feel with a belly full of worms and the person responsible for your care is sitting on the internet asking questions about your misery?
