How can I get the dog door to stop cutting my dogs nose?

I have a 3 year old Redbone hound. She jumps up and darts out the dog door at the slightest noise. I recently discovered the reason for her nose looking cut up. There is a metal strip on the bottom of the flaps that hold it in place with the magnet on the frame, she hits it with her nose running full blast and I believe it is cutting her nose.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? I feel bad cuz her nose looks like it’s been put through a shredder! Not to mention the pain she must feel.

  get yourself some of the rubber door molding and line the door with it

  Remove the metal strip and magnet. The dog doors tend to stay closed without them. Or line the strip with a soft material.

  you can look for a piece of weather stripping and glue it over the sharp edge but make sure the magnets still work and hold it in place

  You could use felt to cover the magnet – (craft stores or wal-mart sell it cheap enough)
  it should be thin enough for the magnet to still do its job but soften it up so it won’t cut her nose. You could use a hot glue gun to attach it to the dog door – or gorilla glue.

  In the meantime, I’d put neosporine on her nose to help it heal.
