okay, my sis has three kids and my dad is the baby sitter. my sis thought it was too much for him and got another babysitter that takes care of them in the morning, and takes her puppy over. she told us her puppy has no medical, and can bring it in our house, but she had a grin. then my sis’s husband said she was just lying. and about a week later she tells us that he really does have worms. now we are finding worms all over our floors. and our dogs and the kids are scratching their butts. if anyone can post a picture of the worms that leave through the butt, it would really help. also, is what she did legal? can we sue her?

  Worms and their eggs are highly contagious – and it is not uncommon for a pup to have worms. Google roundworms, these are the most common puppy worms, but it is threadworms that kids commonly pick up, through eggs in soil or contaminated dog faeces. Worm both your children and your dogs, to be on the safe side – and I hate to say it, but worm yourselves too – eggs are microscopic and get left on toilet seats etc etc….

  Sadly, I don’t think what she did is actually illegal – having a dog with worms is not illegal, but it was certainly rude, if nothing else!

  I’m not sure why you are finding worms all over your floor … the worms would normally come out in the faeces, and I’m sure you don’t have that lying around your house…

  Generally the worms are in the poop. Not just hanging from the butt. I mean the dog would have to be SUPER infested for something like what you are explaining to happen. The children would and can get worms too. Only if they handle the poop or dog’s butt and didn’t wash their hands.

  You could sue but it would be considered a frivolous lawsuit.

  It sounds like pinworms. Although dogs and humans can get pinworms, they are not the same species that infect both. So if it is pinworms (1/2" long threadlike worms) you didn’t get it from the dog. Describe the worms and someone will be better able to help you.

  Your kids didn’t get worms from the dog. It would be highly unusual. Worms usually manifest as skin lesions on humans. Here is a picture-

  The kids didn’t get worms. Don’t worry so much. Even roundworms usually manifest as skin lesions. It has nothing to do with butt itching.
