    I remember awhile back when I was a teenager walking past someone’s house seeing this little brown thing in the yard. I thought it was a bag or a rug but it moved! I walked over to the fence because I love dogs and wanted to look at it the poor thing was so skinny it couldn’t even stand up that infuriated me. I went to the front door and this huge man answered and me a little short 14 year old started screaming in rage at him for the dogs condition. He looked at me then at the backyard where the fence was and said "fine you want the ugly b**** you can have her stay there"

    So he walked out the backdoor to the yard and unhooked her chain then picked the already broken dog up by the collar choking her and literally threw her at me.

    She is now one of my healthiest loving dogs.

    Then about 2 years ago I kept noticing a Shiba Inu tied to a telephone post outside someone’s house. Then one day this dog shows up at my house and it is wilder than wild and I mean like never been touch by a human in it’s life kind of wild. We finally wrangle it into a truck bed and take it to the owner who proceedes to tell us the dog hasn’t been touched since he was 8 weeks old and that they got bored with him and tied him up and would only go outside to feed and water him but never pet him. I decided to take him and see if I could train him to trust again. It took awhile and he is still a little skittish around people and still has his wild tendencies but he gets better every day. My friends and family are amazed that I tamed a wild animal HA it’s not that hard. Just have to have patients alot of guts and a pocket full of treats.

    I have two good ones.
    I adopted my first dog when I was 4. He was at the SPCA…beaten and in bad condition. They said he would have to be put to sleep because he was vicious…we eventually went to court and were allowed to adopt him. He is the best dog I have ever had…I am now 16 and still have him.

    The second. In my neighborhood a wild little dog was loose for two weeks. She was wild and was covered in infected scabs (she had NO hair) So I caught her after three attempts. We took her to the SPCA to see if they could help. They wouldn’t even let her in the door, they said she would have to be put down in the parking lot. So we took her to out vet. With some love, food, and meds she made a complete turn around. Ive had her for four years now and she is soooo tame and has a beautiful coat again.

    Rescue dogs are the best!

    All of my dogs but one are rescues. Worst case I have now is a female chihuahua. 3 yrs ago during an ice storm they told us to leave early from work because of the roads. All of us leaving the building at once and a lady screams there is a rat behind the dumpster, biggest rat she’s ever seen.. etc. I say okay let me run it off and I go back there and it is one of the tiniest chihuahuas I’ve ever seen. Walking on three legs.. trying to snarl.. filthy covered in garbage. She had hardly any teeth and beginnings of cataracts in both eyes. She was wild, I had to throw my coat over her to catch her. Took her straight to the vet. They found all of her legs had been broken and healed badly , and they said she was between 12-20 yrs old. Most of her hair was missing from under her chin all down her belly and insides of her rear legs and butt. I finally tracked down the people who ‘owned’ her. The woman lived in the apt. complex on the other side of the parking lot. She said she ‘raises foster kids for a living’ and had gotten the dog at the pound ‘but she weren’t no good’ so she had to ‘put her out’. She said if I could catch her i could have her. Well I contacted the pound and found out she had belonged to an elderly lady who had passed away and she had this old chi. Well she has never fully recovered from her experiences, but she is waaay better. She is nervous, but not totally wild. She gets along well even though she is now fully blind. One of her legs just withered up and she walks on three mostly, but she has lots of energy and finally her hair has come back on her lower half. I had to really baby her skin to get more than a peach fuzz going, and it is a little thin, but at least her skin is covered. She has her ways, she is obnoxious in a way, but she has taught me a lot about being compassionate to people who maybe have a rough personality due to their life circumstances. She is very sweet in her own way, however, she is very ugly. I have thought of entering her in the ugly dog contest for real!

    i use to walk by this house every day were a puppy lived i would see him getting beat so bad for doing nothing the puppy was only a month old and probably peed on the floor are chewed on something you know puppy things so one day when i new i was moving to another side of town i grabed him and moved he was a great dog died when he was 15 i now have two dogs that have been saved from the pound and there both great companions i also saved a 27 year old horse from slaugter who tought me every thing i know about horses he was the best horse i ever had he died of a very old age of 30

    We have 4 dogs and they are all rescues. We also foster dogs and find them homes

    The most current one was running wild and captured by the Humane Society. We adopted her, took her to the vet and he had to pull a few porcupine quills from her mouth. She still has more but, we wonʻt be able to get them out until Friday when the vet does her spay and puts her under ( they are so far in that it canʻt just be pulled out, he needs to operate)

    One was rescued from a woman on the side of the road giving away pups. It was flea ridden, covered in feces and sick. The vet took her for about 4 weeks to get her back to health and she is now 4 yrs old.

    One was in an abusive household and rescued by a neighbor who then placed a Craigs List ad for help. We went and got the dog, nursed her back to heath but, it took her over a year for her not to be afraid of me ( she was a abused by a guy) She is 4 yrs old also.

    And our last one was abandoned. After we had moved into the house we are currently renting, my daughter saw something moving out by the wood pile behind the house. It was a GSD. He came up to the front porch and was VERY malnourished. We fed him, took him to the vet and tried to find his owner. I guess someone had dumped him here but, he been here for 6 months and LOVES it

    My famiky has adopted three dogs, one which was a droped by a truck driver because he wasn’t potty trained (he spent +12 hours in a truck and was only 2 months old!!!!) the other two n one is really sure about, both were defiantly abused though. My ferrets were abandoned and brought into the shelter I used to volunteer at, along with two other dogs that were loose with them in the back yard.

    I also foster and one of our fosters, Max, was brought in, the lady who brought him in said she saw a man kick him and then throw him over the fence, he was about 6 weks old at the time. Besides being extremely shy he was fine and got adoptted 3 weeks later.

    Abother foster, Hopper, was born with a deforimity, his right hind leg was twisted so the bottom of the paw was touching his belly. One of the employees talked us into taking him, when the employee went to pick him up he aced like a feral dog, hiding and growling, while is brother Dock ran up to everyone. Sadly, not long after taking Hopper with us, the shelter was hit with a case of parvo and Dock died. Hopper ended up getting adopted about 4 weeks later, I am pleased to say he finally learned to climb the stairs. Hoppers leg ended up having to be amputated . No one is sure about Hopper and Dock were picked up as strays.

    The last foster we had was Reese. Reese and her 9 brothers and sister were brought into the shelter as drop offs. According to the owner, his dog, who was an outside dog, had gotten pregnate, the puppies had live dtheir lives outdoors. I brought Reese home, she was the runt of the litter, it was already obviouse she had round worms so we started her on medicine right away. After a week, things weren’t going well, Reese ad begun pucking worms, we increased her dosage. About this time I learned that ALL her brothers and sister had been put down due to space (it was puppy season and they were trying to prevent another case of parvo). Reese ended up with kennel cough about the same time we got rid of her round worms. By the tim she was over that, she had tape worms, contacted from one of our other dogs. She was put on medication for that. We also had an idea that she might be deaf, mainly because you could hit two metal bowls behind her head and she wouldnt even flinch.
    In the en, we had Reese for 5 MONTHS. I am pleased to say she was adopted by a family with two kids, and is doing fine.
