So I recently started giving my dog greenies and she just loves them. Then I started researching them and i found quite a few stories about dogs either dieing or nearly dieing from them. However i realized that pretty much all of these reports were from 2006 or earlier. I heard they changed the formula and they are now more digestible so I’m wondering what other people have heard or experienced for themselves. Is the new formula safe? Do these actually clean teeth and are they even good for dogs to eat?
I’m usually very aware of what i feed my dog and really don’t like all the chemicals i see in these greenies. I can’t even pronounce half the ingredients. I don’t know why i bought these!
Well they at least seem digestible now cause i have one soaking in water right now and after a few hours it is starting to fall apart so if water dissolves them I assume stomach acid will definitely break it down and pass it easily. Just not convinced that they are actually healthy.

  No, they don’t clean teeth well at all. Raw bones clean teeth. Have a look at the ingredients, and I’m sure you’re going to stop using them.

  I have given Greenies to my dogs several times without incident..

  However most are not appropriate for dogs younger than 6 months *&* you should make sure you give the size appropriate to your dog.

  For example, my dogs are all Chihuahua’s and were given the “teenies”.

  You are correct that Nutro changed their formula around three years ago. Greenies are much more digestable now, and are not a danger to dogs.

  If you are concerned about synthetic ingredients, Blue Buffalo has recently come out with their own version of this treat, the difference being the all natural ingredients with the same quality as their foods.
