hi, this is my problem. i have 2 border collies 5 years old. when ever we are out and meet other dogs and owners as soon as we start to talk to them the female collie barks and she won't stop. you tell her to be quiet she just carry's on. she knows she's not allow to do this. it spoils the conversation we try to have because all attention go's on her. we have tried ignoring her but she goes on. we have tried getting her to sit which she will do but still she carrys on. the male dog is so good. any ideas?

    You state that she knows she's not allow to do this. However the fact that she is doing it and you're not repremanding her tells her that while you may not like it (by your reaction), it IS allowed. There are devices which administer a gental shock – not enough to hurt, but enough to be irritating which are used to control barking. Once the dog is trained with this, the device will no longer be necessary. Another possible irritant/corrective measure is a dog whistle, to be used when Rover goes on one of her barking jags.

    I don't buy the psychological approach. Dogs work on instinct. They aren't sentient.
