This video is a how to on how to change your dogs emotional response to something they are frightened of. The example in the video is my dog Kiko who suddenly became fearful of crossing the kitchen floor. Common issues with dogs can be- shiny floors, stairs, man hole covers, grates, metal, wet grass, a crate they had a bad experience in… the list goes on.     @Koreagrrl Yes, inquiring minds want to know how to achieve one well behaved observing dog who stays out of it while the other dog is getting all the fun. Does Splash get a reward for such respectfulness?

    Awesome video :) I thought Kiko walked funny sometimes now I understand why. The poor thing with no ankles. Did she have an accident?

    question for you; how does splash know that those clicks are not for her? Isnt that something you should not do (click and then not reward)?

    I love how this video shows that Kiko was so scared at the start and then built up and up :-) my brothers dogs don’t like the hard floors in his house so I will have to show him this video. I’m jealous of how clean your kitchen floor is, mine is always caked in mud at the moment as the dogs keep rushing in and out of the garden. I also just have to say how much I like kiko, she is SO pretty :-)

    Great Video Emily Daisy Mae is Scared of the kitchen also she does not like Oven Fan she thinks once the fan goes on that the Fire alarm will go off. I got her now to stay in the living room calmly and she will eat at the entrance of the Kitchen. This one is taking some time but i am working hard with this one. I don’t want her to make the other fearful of the oven fan either.

    I used this same technique for sleet when she took an intense dislike for a burnt out car that suddenly appeared on our path we walk each day. The day after I did the CC and desensitization, we went the same way again and sleet went off in front. I found her already at the car with her front paws on it waiting for her click and treat….obvously it worked, haha.

    how do you get Splash to not beg for treats while you are teaching kiko, and just stay where she is even when you’re praising kiko? My dog gets up to get treats when i feed my other dog.

    I just love to watch little Kiko. Thanks for posting Em, have passed this along to a friend whose dog is afraid of the stove because of the timer noise. Excellent vid!

    Great video with very helpful information! My chi, River tends to get fearful of certain things if she has one negative incident with it, so this will come in handy.

    I have to say that I just love Kiko. She is just so elegant and adorable. I didn’t know about her ankles though.

    Great video!! Love your video’s. My dog James has a problem, he is in his puberty and suddenly is growling and snapping to some dogs. Not all. And also when he is on the lease he snaps at dogs, tries to bite them. What can i do?? I hate it that people think he is a mean dog, cause he is not. its hard for me to correct him when he is running loose. Runs to fast.

    another great video emily! ***** but if you have two dogs and you’re training them in a same room and when you click to a certain dog, wouldn’t the other dog get confused whiether the owner is clicking for him or the other dog?

    First I have to say thank you for this video,it will be a big help with my problem! My dog has the same “nightmare”, he makes himself slip when he goes off the carpet floor onto slippery wooden one (but this doesn’t happen every time)..
    I’m just curious, how many clicker lessons does it usually take? I guess it’s a good idea to repeat this exercise daily,for how many days? Cause with my dog it’s like: today he doesn’t remember he’s affraid, but tomorrow he’s terrified. Thanx for the help!

    My dog gets really excited when you come through the door, even if you’ve only been out for a minute, but it isn’t too bad, he’s just really affectionate, but sometimes he gets way to excited, and starts jumping on your, running around, and because there’s laminate near the door, he always slips into stuff but doesn’t stop him running.

    Any ideas on how to calm him down a bit when someone arrives home? Takes a good 5 minutes of him going crazy lol

    @MeekaLynn1968 Mine had a thing with water – he wouldn’t walk through puddles but just seemed to grow out of it and now it’s hard to keep him out of water! If still young perhaps yours will be the same. I didn’t make a deal out of it and I guess he figured if I wasn’t worried then there was no problem…not sure, but he’s fine now. I don’t know if your dog has an even bigger problem but I hope he gets over his fear and is soon enjoying swimming in ponds and paddling rivers too :)

    First Id like to say thank you Kikopup for the videos. Theyre very informative. Also Ive been seeing a lot of comments around youtube, people saying the clicker is too loud. Well Im in the midst of getting a puppy and Ive already gotten a clicker from amazon called i-click. Its a new design made specifically to give off a quieter click than other clickers. I thought I would share just in case anyone wants one or hasnt heard of it they can check it out. Just go to amazon and search i-click.

    Whenever I train my dog she tends to get distracted by the treats in the bag, or the bunch of treats that i’m holding in my hand, what should I do?

    @JDurbie
    When I first started working with the clicker I with my hand in my pocket so the sound wasn’t that loud. Maybe you could try that, removing your hand just a little bit more from the pocket when she reacts good. Good luck!
