I did this also :). However i do have one issue..
My garden has plenty of holes in it to get through and start running on fields chasing rabbits etc.
But that wasn’t really an issue, the issue is someway my dog has taught himself to open the door lol. But he only opens it when im not there, and i’ve caught him doing it once when i was. If the door is locked, he’d jump to hit and turn the unlock with his paw, then jump to pull down the handle and open.. Smart dog i guess, but still worrys me :b

This is a command you MUST teach your dog. It shows him that you are dominant because you control access to the world. He will respect you more.

Ive just done this with my rottweiler and staff mix and cant believe how quick they learnt. Im amazed. My rottie is 14 mths and my staff mix is nearly 6 mths. and running out the door as soon as it was opened is one thing i was having trouble stopping. I practiced wiv them each separatly untill the didnt run out then tried together. and was pretty impressed that neither decided to dart out and only went when i said OK. There was even a distraction with a neighbours cat and still they stayed.

Before that happens I suppose you could control socializing with other dogs like how you’d do so going out doorways. I could see how that same kind of psychology could work in your case if it could with StL87’s husky entering water.

I started doing this with my German Shepherd. It’s only been a couple of days and now when he sees me heading to the door, he lie’s down next to it and waits until I release him.
Very effective technique and is done with a tool that everyone already has.

dammmm Why I didn’t do that in the first place. I use to do that for the water but not for the door and he is a hard head dog… husky anyway thank a lot

I have a 9 month old black lab/ Golden retriever mix. I have tried a few of your training methods but I can’t hold his attention. I tried “stay” and made him sit. Then I put a treat down but he didn’t want the treat. Then I tried “wait” and normally he bolts out the door so I told him to wait and opened the door and he tried to go out so I made a sound and shut it. Then I tried again but the second time he just looked and watched me and then he walked away. Is this normal?
