That’s why you need to give him Food as a reward when he gets the Ball. Call him back then he’ll come to you and let go of the ball and give him the treat

try cutting a tennis ball open put some treats in it and throw it and they’ll go try and take the treat inside then theyre going to get tired cuz they might not be able to open it so they’ll come to you and drop it in front of you because they know your the one that can take the treat out so you take it out and give it to them

My dog will fetch and always drop the ball about 5-10 metres in front of me and just stay there and stare at it in front of him. I don’t know how to make him come all the way. If I make him come he comes but leaves the ball where he dropped it. I’ve stood there for about 5 minutes before and he just stared at the ball didn’t move. Any suggestions to make him bring it all the way?

I have the exact same problem with my German Shepherd! I’d really like to play fetch with him, but this gets in the way.

I tried this… When he dropped the ball away from me, I started playing with the other ball and he came over, interested. When he didn’t go get the other ball that he dropped, I put away the ball I was playing with. That caused him to go back and get the other ball, where I started playing with my ball, and he dropped his ball at my feet. Then I threw my ball and repeated. It WORKS! It’s only been 2 days and we can play fetch for 30mins! I can’t wait until I only need one ball! AMAZING!

I think maybe i’ll have to try the food rewards with my dog (pit/lab mix) because shes a little hard willed and will just drop the ball 5-10 yards in front of me and stare at me because she knows i have the second ball…after about 3 minutes of waiting, she finally got tired and brought eh ball to me though, but treats might speed the whole process up which would be nice.

Pick it up with your mouth first, then run around with the ball in your mouth, show her how fun it is. Let her throw the ball a couple of times and you run after it. This will show her that it can be quite fun. lol

How do I get my dog (lab mix) to actually pick up the damn ball in the first place? I will throw the ball, she runs to it, sniffs it a few times, then looks at me like I’m crazy if I think she’s going to pick it up and return it. Retriever my ass!

Hey Amazing Dog Training Man! I’m positively sure that will work but I have a huge problem! My backyard is huge, and when I throw the toy, he runs around, not returning to me and when I try to bring him back with a treat, he drops the toy and comes for the treat. What should I do? I cannot bring the dog in the house for an enclosed room because its not allowed since theres a baby around. What should I do?

my dog likes to steal things and put them in collections. shes a collector. we call her bat cos she looks like a bat and she always takes what she thinks as of mine. so when i throw the ball she will go get it and hide it somewhere so i cant get it. shes very, VERY playful and if i try catch her and get it she will run off, the only thing is she likes food…

It worked really well but my dog got used to me having two balls. Could you tell me to work it with one ball after the fact that I use two balls please?
