    they are not the same. Amstaffs are stockier and generally have bigger heads. Pitbulls, nowadays, could be mixed with just about anything and the Amstaff will tend to be more of a selected breeder. I used to breed both varieties in case you are wondering my experience. Secondly, Pitbulls are not registerable through the AKC and Amstaffs are. Pitbulls are only registerable through UKC or ADBA.

    Tolerance, like alcohol tolerance. they can take a lot of punishment before they feel anything. i have a 4 mo. old. He’s AMAZING. They’re breed as a working dog and are SO easy to train. He’s been fetchin since he was 8 wks. good luck with finding one though. they’re outlawed from sale in pet shops in all 50 states.

    yea youre right, they are two different dogs, they have a lot of similarities, I think the only thing that stands out is that americans are more stocky than pitbull terriers and theyre easier to train (have more of a calmer demeanor) but for the most part both staffy and pits are generalized together as pitbulls

    Amstaffs and Pit`s are the same breed.Amstaffs were taken to shows and Pitt`s have been used for dogfihts(the Pit).I own a Pit-Boxer Mix, hight is 53 cm,27 kg pure muscel, my best friend,loves children and guests when come around.Hates male-dogs.Please excuse my english i`m german.

    i have an Amstaff and its sad that u dont know the difrence between Amstaff and APBT!!! u know that is not thrue that Amstaff is a same breed like a APBT…so dont talk about something u dont know!!!

    I have a Am. Staff./Rott. Mix He is extreamly lovable and obedeint, however, I want to train him to be a gaurd dog, he’s only 6 months so this is prime time. Any suggestions?

    Its true what he said about how They have a bad reputation.
    Because I have one and hes playful and loves children he never bites.
    And he never even barks.
    They are very playful when their back inside their home ( like a garage backyard inside a house )I usually take him to the dog park to make him friendly ( which he already is ) and make him meet new friends.

    i’m sad cuz i barely got my amstaff yesterday and it got out of my fence and now i cant find it. what should i do???

    …further off base, well bred dogs of either breed make wonderful companions and excellent working dogs. There are in many people’s opinions more lines of APBT that tend to be hotter in terms of animal aggression as the AKC show focus for Amstaffs has resulted in more lines with a calmer demeanor with other animals though plenty of Amstaff lines remain that retain a reputation for hotness around other animals.

    RE Temperment: animal aggression can be part and parcel to both the APBT and the Amstaff, owners not prepared to deal with that potentiality should steer away from the bully breeds. Neither Amstaffs nor APBTs should ever be human aggressive and instances of such are typically indicative of rash backyard breeding and inadequate socialization. Teh comment that Amstaffs are friendly and APBT are mean or more aggressive could not be….

    registered with the United Kennel Club (UKC) as American Pit Bull Terriers. After 1936 the AKC stud books were closed and then briefly reopened in the 1970s I believe. So, virtually since 1936 AKC Amstaffs have been bred along different lines from UKC only registered APBTs. The UKC does however still allow Amstaffs to single register as APBTs. The AKC however does not allow UKC only APBTs to cross register as Amstaffs. There is much debate within the Amstaff and APBT world over whether…

    RE: Are Amstaffs and the APBT the same breed – The Amstaff was recognized by the AKC in 1936, at that time the chosen name for the breed was the Staffordshire Terrier, a few years later when the English Staffordshire Bull Terrier was recognized the name was changed to American Staffordshire Terrier to differentiate the dogs from the smaller English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. All of the first registered Amstaffs were registered with the Kennel Club as American Pit Bull Terriers.

    The Bulldog comes in a variety of colours and ideally has a smooth, short coat. In the United Kingdom, the breed standard is 55 pounds for a male and 50 pounds for a female, but it is not uncommon for males to be 70 pounds so there for any true full blooded Am Pitbull Terrier or Am Staffordshire Terrier shouldnt get any heavier then these Bulldogs

    the pit bull breed came from England to US, where it was trained not to sheperd cattles but for dog shows. So they thought that this dog earns a new name for the old one was blemished beause of that jerks who were using pits for dog fight. pit bulls first new name was yankee terrier, than staffordshire terrier. I think pit bulls are not legal in England, but Staffys are, so i do not see the meaning!
